Message from the MD
Having worked in engineering my whole life I decided the time was right to start my own business where I can put to good use a lifetime of experience all under one roof.
In a long and varied career,
I have acquired a hands on expertise of fabrication and welding, precision machining (manual and CNC), mechanical assembly and project management in a range of sectors that include Oil & Gas, Aerospace, Medical and Construction.

Services we provide
At SMF Precision we can offer precision fabrication and welding in light to medium gauge aluminium, and thick section carbon and stainless steels in MIG TIG and MMA. We are able to provide a bespoke service that includes precision laser cut and folded sheet metalwork, tanks, structural steel frames, gantries and larger fabricated structures. One off jobs to jig work.
We are also able to offer a comprehensive range of NDT through our partnership with Agile NDT Ltd.
Machining
Manual and CNC Milling and Turning
SMF Precision Engineering are ideally equipped to be quick and responsive to our customers needs and our machine shop, comprising of both manual and CNC lathes and mills, gives us the ability to produce precision components with a quick turn around.. We are also able to drill, tap and ream larger, thick section parts, on our radial drill.
To compliment this we have an internal QMS and a range of inspection equipment.

- Bowers bore gauges.
- External micrometers.
- Vernier calipers.
- Thread gauges, both caliper gauges and Go/NoGo.
Specialists in vacuum related products
We specialise in vacuum related products ranging from weldable NW fittings to rotatable flanges, couplings, feedthroughs and more in a range of materials.

We can also manufacture and/or repair beam dumps & faraday cups for the Electron Beam industry.

Paint & Powder Coat
We are able to offer paint and powder coating to your requirements with a comprehensive range of paint and powders at our disposal
Plating and passivation
We are able to provide zinc and cadmium plating and passivation to your requirements. Other treatments available on request.

Our machine shop comprises the following CNC milling and turning equipment and tools:
- Colchester Mascot 1600 Lathe, 80" between centres with 3 & 4 jaw chucks and faceplate.
- Colchester Tornado 110 CNC Lathe.
- Bridgeport Mill.
- Bridgeport EZTrak CNC Mill.
- Asquith Radial Arm Drill with a 4MT spindle.
- A range of rotary tables, vices and indexers.
- Various tool grinders.

Our fabrication and welding shop comprises of the following equipment:
- Miller Syncrowave 250. water cooled
- Miller STH270 water cooled.
- Kemppi Pro4200 water cooled.
- ProArc programmable rotary manipulator with 3 jaw chuck and support rollers for longer parts.
- Oxygen & Acetylene for silver soldering, brazing preheat and gas cutting.
- We hold a range of abrasives for tools such as angle grinders, orbital sanders and tube polishers.
We also stock various grades of stainless and aluminium MIG and TIG wire as well as MMA electrodes.
